Guilford GOP Chair Marcus Kindley says comments were ‘taken out of context’
NCAC rejects Kindley’s excuse, insists on apology & retraction

Greensboro, NC; June 12, 2006 1:15pm – In an email dated July 12, 2006, 11:45am, in response to the NC Advocacy Coalition’s request for an official apology for and retraction of anti-gay remarks comparing homosexuals to pedophiles from the Guilford GOP Chairman Marcus Kindley and the Guilford County Republican Party, Mr. Kindley claims that his words have been taken out of context, something for which he states he is offended.

Mr. Kindley’s remarks were not taken out of context by the NC Advocacy Coalition or its Executive Director Matt Hill Comer. American society sees pedophilia as an extremely immoral, repulsive and illegal perversion. Pedophilia is the cause of the mental, physical and sexual abuse and exploitation of children

Homosexuality, on the other hand, consists of relationships of two consenting adults, just as in heterosexuality. In normal adult relationships, neither party is harmed, abused, exploited or forced to engage in sexual acts against their will, as what occurs with pedophilia.

By stating homosexuality is as “natural as pedophilia” Mr. Kindley’s effect is to persuade the public into thinking homosexuality is as immoral, repulsive and perverse as pedophilia and the abuse and exploitation of children.

The concepts, phenomena, effects and realities of homosexuality and pedophilia are not comparable in any way. Major social and psychological associations, including the American Psychological Association, the National Association of Social Workers, the American Academy of Child Psychiatrists and the Child Welfare League of America, claim that homosexuality and pedophilia are in no way linked or similar.

In much the same way that people compared African-American men to rapists by saying black men wanted to “rape your white women” fifty to one-hundred or more years ago, Mr. Kindley is now comparing gay people to pedophiles. The effect is to instill fear and prejudice into the minds of his followers and the public. Within the same writing where his anti-gay remarks are found, Mr. Kindley states how it is no longer safe for children to walk the streets. By later setting homosexuality and pedophilia side-by-side, Mr. Kindley’s effect is to say to parents, “Homosexuals want to rape your children.” This tactic is an old one. Intolerance and fear of the minority becomes that less difficult when it becomes easy for leaders such as Mr. Kindley to compare peaceful, law-abiding and community-involved gay people to perverse, mentally ill criminals.

Mr. Kindley should be ashamed of his out-dated, unscientific, derogatory and prejudiced comparison between gay people and pedophiles. His claim that his comments were taken out of context is an easy excuse with which he hopes to get “off the hook” and with which he will try to sweep his prejudice and ignorance under the rug.

The North Carolina Advocacy Coalition still firmly insists on an apology and retraction from Mr. Kindley and the Guilford County Republican Party for the harmful and dangerous anti-gay remarks.

The North Carolina Advocacy Coalition is a state-wide political action committee focused on the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allied supporters. More information on NCAC is available at, by phone at 336-391-9528 or by email at

Mr. Kindley’s Response to NCAC’s first request for apology & retraction
July 12, 2006, 11:45am

Dear Matt:

I appreciate your letter of this date.

I believe if you read the referenced material you will see I never compared homosexuals to pedophiles. You have apparently taken out of context what was written.

I quote,”In America today our churches have degraded their beliefs so much that the ordinary citizen sees no need to attend a worship service, because he sees and hears the same thing on Opra and Dr. Phil everyday.
We now say that homosexuality is ok. That it is natural. Yes it is as natural as pedophilia.”

I never attacked Homosexuals, I only made an observation about what is natural and what is not.

I take offense to you taking out of context what was written for your own political agenda.

Thank you again for your response.

Marcus Kindley

This guy is full of crap. He knows what he did, he equated homosexuality with pedophilia …. sick. He is pandering to the ultra right religious types.

Study after study show no correlation between homosexuality and pedophilia, but that does not stop the disinformation campaign from the far right.

On my blog I expose the connection between Christianity and pedophilia, and there is a strong connection.

Time to tell the truth…. oh wait your a rebubilican…. that is impossible.
