NC Religious Coalition for Marriage Equality to hold meeting – October 14

This from the NC Religious Coalition for Marriage Equality:

Dear Members of the North Carolina Religious Coalition for Marriage Equality,

We are thrilled to announce that NCRC4ME will be having a statewide gathering on Saturday, October 14, at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church in Raleigh. Dr. James Forbes, Senior Minister of the historic Riverside Church in New York City, will be our guest that day. Dr. Forbes will preach at an interfaith service that morning, and he will take your questions after lunch.

As many of you know, Dr. Forbes is one of the finest preachers in our country and has been a prophetic voice championing the cause of civil rights for gay and lesbian citizens. We know this will be an exciting experience for the members of our coalition, and we are hoping that many people unfamiliar with NCRC4ME will attend as well.

We need you to do several things:

1. Sign up and attend if at all possible. Registration information is found below and in the attached flyer.
2. Publicize the event within your congregations and forward the flyer to people you think would be interested.
3. Volunteer on October 14 to help with what we hope will be a large number of people in attendance. Contact Chantelle Fisher-Borne if you are interested in volunteering at this event:

We look forward to seeing you on October 14!

  1. Forbes is without a doubt one of the best preachers in America.

He’s a black man, pastoring the predominantly white Riverside Church in NY.

I saw Forbes right before the 2004 elections. He was preaching at a Poverty service in the National Cathedral. Forbes busted out and rapped the first 5 minutes of his service. It was amazing. He had the entire diverse audience on their feet hootin and hollerin. I’d love to see Forbes again…
