NC State rears its ugly anti-gay face #2

NC State LGBT Center. The most up-to-date news right here.

You’ve seen the story. You’ve seen part one of the anti-gay bigotry from students and staff.

Here’s part two:

if the lesbians, gays and bisexuals get a building than people who are into beastiality, pedophilia, and convicted felons should also get a building amirite?!?! Jonathan Paul

And in response to Jonathan: damn straight. but dont forget about the rapists and the necro’s they are people too, just messed up people. BUT still people Evan Halladay

Ishma Pinckney pops up with his anti-gay religious rhetoric once again: dumbies you also have to pay a director for this center and other worker. So we will be paying some gay leader 40,000-75,000 a year to run this center…..YES A BIG WASTE OF MONEY FOR A UNGODLY CENTER. lets put a end this center idea everyone….write the student senate, the channcellor, donators to the university, etc. AND, again: if we want to put a end to this center talk we must do more then write on facebook someone send me a message about ideas ex. rally, flyers etc… to put this gay center down

Where the hell are you from? North Carolina is a conservative, religious state. We don’t like gays plain and simple. It’s always been that way and it will always be that way. Ben Fisher

!!! CAN WE HAVE A STRAIGHT WHITE CENTER ??? Cameron Neal

And here’s a big whopper of a comment from Daniel Thomas (who has no idea what he is talking about; yes, other animals do practice homosexual behavior):

yes diversity and change is important but not when it goes against nature. yes love who you want but homosexuality is not just morally wrong but scientifically wrong. unless your a porifera or some small multi celled organism that doesnt even have a brain, male and female are needed to have children. no animals are boning each other in the ass or rubbing genitals together for fun. yes many people think its morally wrong, but its more then that. homosexuality is not normal and shouldnt be accepted as a simple change in who u love. u can love the same sex but not intimately. its wrong because its not meant to be. even if there was no god and we are all just organisms, its wrong, nature did not intend for this. just like cancer and different deformities in the body, people have problems with their minds and think that doign the jungle dance with the same sex is fine or that murdering a family is ok because their lives dont mean anything. its ok not to accept gay people

and putting in this building will show people that its ok to be gay and that those who are having a hard time can go their to find themselves and realize they are gay. if it was their way, we would die out because no babies would be made. there are too many points here to cover and too many invalid bashing of gays and people who dont like them. all in all, there is not going to be enough benefit out of this center to spend the money on it, wherever the money comes from. diversity does not mean segregate and make a center for gays. it means join the masses as one people

This one, from Jake Parker: I don’t agree with it because it encourages sin… We don’t have a group for women and men who fuck the opposite sex…. I will never say I have not engaged in pre-marital sex. I won’t say that I won’t do it again. Yes it is a sin and I pray every night. However, there isn’t a group that encourages me to go out fuck everything that walks… Why should we have a group that encorages sin… North Carolina is a conservative state in general… Go to San Francisco and build your shit or set your group up… Hell just do it off campus… I honestly don’t want to be involved with a school that supports a bunch of bull shit AND, again: We are all sinners like you said. But in order to be closer to Christ, we have to try to change. If you are trying to remain queer, then you aren’t trying to straighten your relationship out with Christ. I won’t cast judgement on you, but I don’t think that a building should be built on campus that promotes sinning. I had much rather be around gay people and not know it than have to walk by their building everyday and see them coming out of the building…. Food costs too much in Raleigh… I would like to keep it down. You don’t have to stay in the closet, but hell, don’t come out that far.

And this one, from Thomas Eldridge (whatever happened to protecting the minority from harm by the majority?): On another note, without citing political, moral, or religious reasons, i can make this statement. The student government is supposed to represent the student body as a whole or the majority. And assuming that the LBGT community is in a minority, that means people opposed to the center would be in the majority. A responsible student government would reflect the wishes of the student body majority and take action accordingly, not motivated by personal reasons.

Queer Center? Watch your back? Fags in the Senate? That’s what Matthew Rhodes thinks: Well I only have one thing to say about this queer center. If they build this on campus then I am quitting NCSU. I mean this is North Carolina, not California right?? and since Casey Shadix argues this point then he must be one of the main supporters of this group. I guess that if we see him around campus then we better watch our backs. God put Adam and Eve on Earth not Adam and Steve or Eve and Eva. I mean come on NCSU where is the christian morals? Forget the politically corect way to do things and do it the true moral American way. And I guess we have a bunch of fags on our senate…at least 29 of them.

A cock-shaped building? Ask Mr. Zac Kasak about that one: I would rather burn my money then give it towards anything dealing with gays…if the gays want a cockshaped building thats fine, as long as only gay people pay for it and it is somewhere that we never have to see it

I too believe homosexuality is a choice. Here is a great PAC who believes so as well. Everyone check it out! http://wearethinking.com/ AND, again: Money ain’t a thing. Homosexuality is wrong. Holler. Joe Humphries

You know… my heart really started to physically hurt reading this and my eyes got watery. This is really sad folks. NC State needs to do something. Seriously. Right Now. I’m not playing.

    Matt,
Why do you continute to say “NCSU”…
Not all of NCSU feels one way or the other. Some are indifferent. But when you title your post “NC State rears…” you are implying that all 30,000 students and 10,000 faculty and staff all are against the GBLT Center. That is simply not the case and I would expect you to not classify so many people together.

And secondly, NC State doesn’t need to do anything about this. NCSU students can work out their differences and figure out a solution in the end. The last thing we need is for more involvement on this matter from Administration and outside sources. That just drums it up and baits the fighting more. In fact, this center wasn’t even that big of a deal until outside people started making comments and getting involved. (Check the dates…the center was on a smooth path even after the Technician reported on it)

If people would just allow things to work themselves out, the center has a better chance of establishing itself. Not everything needs to be met with automatic indignation and confrontation.

Anyway, my main point was not to stereotype all of NCSU on what 1000 of its students decided to say on facebook.

It is sad that a center for higher education can have students that actually believe in this stuff. But then again, if you look at the way some of this was written, you can obviously guess at the level of intelligence it represents. And I wonder how many of these people that are citing how conservative NC is are actually from NC.

This just goes to show we have a long way to go. Our focus should not be on trying to force change but to educate and allow change to come in due time.

  3. Matt says:

Lee… I’m not stereotyping all of NC State. I never said “Every person at NC State _______” but students and staff at NC State are saying this stuff and like it or not they are sending a pretty negative perception of your University out to the world.

As for the “center not being a big deal.” Maybe it wasn’t, but this issue isn’t just about the center. It is also about how safe NC State is for LGBT students and as we can see from some of the folks in this group, it doesn’t look too safe to me.

DJ… Thanks for your comments. It is hard to believe that folks from one of our state’s top educational institutions are really this uneducated.

  4. Lee says:

Let me be clear that I never would condone or try to make excuses for the inbreds that have written this stuff. But there is a lot that I am confused on when it comes to the two sides in this current discussion. Front and center though is what is the definition of “safe” on campus? And it may be my naive eyes that I see the world through, but what has been written only makes people look really dumb and without a rounded view on life. It however has yet to seem as a threat. So, when people say that NCSU is not “safe” do you mean that people do not feel safe physically? Or they do not feel safe mentally? Is it psychological abuse or physical abuse? I have never seen any report of a hate crime on campus, so I haven’t really understood why people don’t feel safe in that regard. I can however completely understand if this is taken from the stance of psychological fear, especially after the infamous Free Expression Tunnel incident of a few years ago.
In case you haven’t heard about that, let me fill you in on the time that our campus decided to get involved and begin to support GBLT students.
About 4 years ago BGLA was going to celebrate National Coming Out Day by painting the Free Expression Tunnel (our free-speech area on campus). They painted a large black background, white text sign that said “It’s a Good Day to be OUT”. Someone came along between the time the group painted this and the morning and marked through “OUT” and wrote “SHOT”.
It is actually that singular experience that made me want to do what I can to support the GBLT community on our campus. I am not an activist by any means. But, I have personally helped Project SAFE (an awareness program that all RAs are required to complete). Actually, a lot of faculty heads require their faculty to complete this program as well. I also have spoken up for the BGLA in student government discussions, as well as a number of other areas on campus. But none of this has made me truly think anyone is really physically threatened.
So yeah, back to my original question. What is the meaning of “safe” and if you could snap your fingers what would be the detailed situation you would want on the campus?
    Thanks

  5. Matt says:

I know you don’t support or condone what they are doing Lee. I know you’re a good guy and I know you know what is right.

I’ve only ever known one person who was not physically safe at NC State. She eventually transferred out and came to UNCG. I think the issue here is that people do not feel “safe” in that these things are being said and done around them. So in one sense it may be psychological but it also leads to not feeling physically safe as well.

If you have people going aroudn quoting Bible verses and stressing the “DEATH” part of it, you aren’t going to feel physically safe.

My point is that there is a major problem with the LGBT climate at NC State. The proposal from the University Diversity Advisory Council confirms my thoughts. My fellow LGBT brothers and sisters at NC State deserve to have a campus that is safe for them. You agree with that, right?

  6. Caitlin says:

People are so hateful it makes me want to be physically sick sometimes. I’m just really glad I came to UNCG and things like this is why I started writing the novel I started almost 4 years ago. I’m trying to open some narrow ignorant minds if I possibly can.Our fellow LGBT students at NC State deserve to have that center and also deserve to feel safe and not have to worry about whether they’ll be attacked be it verbally or physically by narrow minded people.

  7. Lee says:

    Yes…I definitely agree with that.
